Dr. Jennifer Milne was awarded a PhD and a Master of Arts degree in Music Theory from the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. She also holds a Bachelor of Music, specialising in music theory and piano performance from the University of Ottawa (Canada).
Jennifer has lived in Australia since 2010 and has over 25 years of experience teaching music theory and aural skills at a university level, teaching in Canada, the United States, and Australia. She is enthusiastic about music theory has taught it at all levels: from music fundamentals through to advanced chromatic harmony, as well as 20th/21st century compositional techniques. She also enjoys teaching aural skills and believes that they are essential for the complete musician. She takes particular joy in working with instrumentalists, vocalists, and choristers to improve their sight-singing skills.
Additionally, Jennifer is an experienced piano tuner and is available to care for your piano, whether it is an upright or grand, old, or new.
Jennifer is qualified to educate and train students for examinations at any level. She emphasises a deeper understanding of music theory, not just rote memorisation of rules, which equips the student with the tools to develop a creative approach to their understanding of music.
She teaches at her Darlinghurst studio and is accepting students of all levels.
